SWOCC
Southwestern Oregon's softball team is at the NWAACC Championships in Portland through Monday.  The Lakers open against Pierce College at 9:30 a.m.  SWOCC's baseball team ends the regular season Saturday at Chemeketa in Salem.

Oregon opened its NCAA softball regional tournament in Eugene Thursday with a 7-3 win over Portland State, while BYU downed Mississippi State, 4-3 in nine-innings.  The Ducks will play the Cougars today at 11 a.m.  In Norman, Oklahoma, Oregon State opens against Tulsa today at 3 p.m.

Oregon hosts Seattle in a three-game non-conference baseball series in Eugene Friday through Sunday.  Oregon State has a three-game Pac-12 series against Washington State in Pullman, WA.

Oregon's impressive 1-2-3 finishes in the 200 and 800 meters at the Pac-12 Championships helped the women climb to No. 3 in the last USTFCCCA poll of the regular season.  Both Oregon teams moved up this week, with the men climbing two spots to No. 20, following the Ducks' sweep of the Pac-12 Championships.  Turning toward the NCAA Championships, the top team for the women is Louisiana State out of the SEC, but after that, the Pac-12 and Big 12 both have four teams in the top 11. Following the Tigers, its Kansas (Big 12), Oregon (Pac-12), Florida (SEC), Clemson (ACC), Texas (Big 12), Texas A&M (Big 12), Arizona (Pac-12), Texas Tech (Big 12), Arizona State (Pac-12) and Stanford (Pac-12).  The men's poll had Texas A&M and Florida swapping spots with Aggies at No. 1 again. They were followed by Indiana, Arkansas and Texas Tech.  USC led the Pac-12 men's teams at No. 11, followed by No. 14 ASU, No. 15 Arizona, No. 20 Oregon and No. 22 Stanford.

Southwestern Athlete Signs 4-year College Letter of Intent
Joseph Moquino, a guard for the Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) Men’s Basketball team, signed a national letter of intent, May 7, 2012 to continue playing basketball next year at Lewis-Clark State College, a NAIA Division I school and member of the Frontier Conference.  The 5’10” guard is originally from Sandia High School in Albuquerque, NM.  He averaged 19 points, four rebounds, and  two steals per game last season, including a season high of 38 points versus Chemeketa Community College on 5 of 10 shooting from the 3-point line.  Moquino was voted First-Team all-conference, all-defensive team, and was selected to play in the NWAACC sophomore all-star team by the coaches in the Southern Region.  “Joseph was instrumental in helping us back to the NWAACC Championship Tournament,”  said SWOCC Head Coach Trevor Hoppe. “He is such a hard worker, I am very proud to see his hard work pay off and that he will transferring to Lewis-Clark State College.”

Visiting Mt. Hood took a pair of one run wins from Southwestern Oregon Tuesday in an NWAACC baseball doubleheader at Coos Bay.  The Saints won 7-6 and 3-2.  The Lakers fall to 10-27.

Kavin Keyes hit a bases-clearing triple in the second and Scott Schultz held Portland scoreless in 4 2/3 innings of relief to send the 23rd-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 12-4 win over the Pilots Tuesday night at Goss Stadium.

The Oregon State Department of Athletics announced its schedule for several Beaver Nation Road Shows next month. Fans are invited to join Oregon State coaches, staff and supporters for an evening to celebrate all that is Orange and Black and hear about the future of Beaver Athletics.  These four unique opportunities are scheduled for June 6 in Eugene, June 10 in Bend, June 12 in San Francisco and June 13 in Portland.

The sixth-ranked Oregon baseball team completed the sweep of USC on Monday night at PK Park with a come-from-behind 6-3 victory.  The Ducks (38-14, 19-8) are currently first in the Pac-12 standings with a one and 1/2 -game lead over Arizona. Oregon, currently on a five-game win streak, will take a weekend off from conference play, hosting Seattle at PK Park beginning Friday, and will then complete the regular season in a three-game series at Oregon State, May 25-27.

Collegiate Baseball Poll
Oregon has moved up to No. 6 in the latest Baseball America Top 25 collegiate poll.  The Ducks are currently in first place in the Pac-12.  Oregon State remains at No. 23.

The Oregon State men's and women's rowing teams wrapped up competition at the Pac-12 Championships on Sunday afternoon, with the Beaver men coming in fourth for the fifth time in the last six seasons and the women finishing seventh for the third year in a row.  The men's 48 team points were just one shy of third-place Stanford while the women garnered 8.5 total points. The Washington men and California women both defended their conference titles.

No. 12 Oregon ended the 2012 Pac-12 regular softball season with a series win over visiting No. 14 UCLA.  The Bruins won the opener Thursday, 10-0, but the Ducks won the Friday, 3-2 and Saturday, 8-2.  Oregon (13-9, 39-15) finished third in the Pac-12.  The Ducks have been tabbed the No. 11 seed for the upcoming 64-team NCAA Tournament and will host a four-team regional in Eugene against BYU (43-13), Mississippi State (33-22) and Portland State (27-23), Thursday through Saturday, May 17-19.  Oregon State lost its regular season series finale at Arizona in Tucson.  The Wildcats won the opener  Thursday, 12-4 (6), but the Beavers came back and won on Friday, 4-0, before falling Saturday, 3-1.  OSU finishes 9-14, 34-21, but was chosen to compete in an NCAA regional tournament in Norman, Oklahoma.  The Beavers will open against Tulsa (41-12) Friday.  Other teams include host Oklahoma and Lehigh.

It wasn't easy, but Oregon State won its Pac-12 baseball series at Utah this past weekend in Salt Lake City.  The Beavers won the opener 11-10 Friday, lost Saturday, 4-3 (11), but rebounded with a 5-4 (10) Sunday.  OSU (13-10, 32-17) hosts Portland Tuesday and then plays this weekend at Washington State.  Oregon plays USC in the final game of a three-game series tonight at 6 p.m. at PK Park in Eugene.  The Ducks (18-8, 37-14) won the first two games.  Oregon beat the Trojans 4-3 Saturday and 4-2 Sunday.

Former North Bend athlete Sammie Clark finished seventh in the women's Pole Vault (13-00.75) at the Pac-12 Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene Sunday.  Oregon swept both the men's and women's titles.  The women won for the fourth straight year, while the men bagged their sixth consecutive league title.

Southwestern Oregon finished the 2012 NWAAACC softball regular season with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Mt. Hood CC Saturday in Coos Bay, 2-1, & 15-4.  The Lakers (34-5) finished first in the Southern Region and will now advance to the NWAACC Tournament May 18-21 in Portland.  SWOCC's baseball team was swept at Lane CC in Eugene Saturday, 5-2, 8-1.  Southwestern (10-25) hosts Mt. Hood Tuesday and then finishes the regular season at Chemeketa CC in Salem Saturday, May 17.

SWOCC Women place 3rd at NWAACC Southern Region Track and Field Championships
Kristina Hossley and Jeanessa Durham led Southwestern Oregon's track team to an outstanding performance at the Southern Region Championships at Mt Hood Community College this past weekend.  Kristina Hossley had a spectacular jump in her first time trying the Triple Jump soaring to a 35’ 11 ½ “ to take first place in the event. She also placed 2nd in the High Jump at 4’ 11 ½ , 3rd in the 100 HH at 15.23, 3rd in the Long Jump at 16’ 7”, 7th in the Heptathlon as well as running anchor on the 4th place 4 X 100 relay.  Laker coach Dan Neal, "Wow we were all surprised. Last week she came up to me and asked if she could try the event and I said yes. This is the last meet we let the athletes do what they like and I can say now she likes the Triple Jump."  Jeanessa Durham started the meet with a 2nd place finish in the Heptathlon with 3864 points, placed 3rd in the 400 IM Hurdles running a 1:07 with a major stumble after leading the race for the first 300 meters. Durham then placed 4th in the Long Jump at 16’ 2” and 5th in the Javelin at 108’8” and also ran on the 4th place 4 X 100 and 4 X 400 relay teams.  The Lakers' Jump team had 5 out of 8 jumpers in the finals of the woman’s Triple Jump and 3 out of 8 I the Women’s Long Jump. The Lakers are coached by Kermit Walker a local Masters athlete.  Taylor Elmgren placed 10th in the Long Jump with a 15’ 4” jump and was 6th in the High Jump.  Shawna Mouser ran all the sprints and both relays. Mouser placed 8th in the 100 at 13.28 and 7th in the Long Jump at 15’11.  The woman’s 4 X 100 relay team ran a respectful 50.55 for 4th place and a 4:14 in the 4 X 400 relay.  The meet was won by Lane Community College with 251, followed by Mt Hood with 209 points and the Lakers were third place with 120.5 points.  On the Men’s side the 4 X 100 relay continues to creep into the elite group with a season best of 43.13. The relay team consists of Brandon Hatley, Chris Gill, Ryan Scoville and Darryn Say.  Ryan Scoville ran an 11.41 for 4th place in the 100 and was 5th in the Long jump at 20’ 8”.  Darryn Say was 5th in the 100 at 11.43 and was 8th in the long Jump at 20’1”,  Chris Gill had a PR in the 200 where he placed 10th with a 23.44.  Local Triple Jumper Sean Hood placed 5th with a jump of 40’ 11”.  The Lakers will be at the NWAACC Championships at Spokane on May 20-21.

Southwestern Oregon hosts Mt. Hood CC in the final NWAACC softball doubleheader of the 2012 regular season, Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. in Coos Bay.  The Laker baseball team has three doubleheaders remaining beginning Saturday at Lane CC in Eugene.  SWOCC's track team will be at the Southern Regional Championships at Mt. Hood CC in Gresham Saturday.

No. 12 Oregon fell 10-0 to No. 14 UCLA Thursday night at Howe Field in Eugene.  It's the final Pac-12 softball series of the regular season for the two teams that runs into the weekend.  Oregon State lost 12-4 at Arizona last night in another final regular season series in Tucson, AZ.

No. 9 Oregon hosts USC in a Pac-12 baseball series in Eugene at PK Park Saturday through Monday.  Oregon State has a three game series Friday through Sunday at Utah in Salt Lake City.

Willamette Volleyball Classic at OSU
Oregon State University is pleased to announce that it will host the Sixth Annual Willamette Volleyball Classic on May 11-13.  The event will be capped by an exhibition match between Oregon State and Western Washington on Saturday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Gill Coliseum. Admission is free to the event.  The junior tournament, which will attract four different age groups (12’s, 14’s, 16’s, and 18’s), will draw 212 teams and over 7,000 coaches, friends, and family members to Corvallis and the Oregon State campus during Mother’s Day Weekend.

Southwestern Oregon swept an NWAACC softball doubleheader from visiting Lower Columbia CC Wednesday in Coos Bay, 8-0 & 8-3.  The Lady Lakers, in first place in the Southern Region, improve to 32-5 with one doubleheader remaining on the schedule at home to Mt. Hood this Saturday, May 12.

Oregon swept the weekly Pac-12 track and field honors with De'Anthony Thomas and Dakotah Keys being honored for the men and Becca Friday and Brianne Theisen getting the nod for the women.  In his collegiate track debut, Thomas anchored Oregon's 4x100 meter relay team to victory in 40.89 seconds at the Oregon Twilight over the weekend. He also placed second in the 200 meters in 21.60 and third in the 100 in 10.65.  Friday ran a personal best 2:05.61 to finish third in the 800 meter at the Oregon Twilight. She was the top collegian in the race.  Competing in just his second-career decathlon, Keys posted 7,793 points to win the Pac-12 title.  Theisen won the Pac-12 heptathlon by scoring a league-record 6,353 points, the third-highest total by a collegian in NCAA history and also exceed the Olympic "A" standard for the Canadian Olympic hopeful.

Oregon State senior cornerback Jordan Poyer has been named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, it was announced Monday. The Astoria native is among 42 of the most accomplished student-athletes in the country to be nominated for the ninth annual award recognizing integrity, maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity (IMPACT).

UO "O" Heroes
The University of Oregon Athletic Department’s O Heroes will continue their community service efforts this week when they help host the “O”lympics at the Boys and Girls Club of Eugene. The “O”lympics event is scheduled for Friday, May 11, running from approximately 4-6 p.m.  Over 40 UO student-athletes will be in attendance to team-up with members from the Boys and Girls Club of Eugene and its supporters. The groups will split up and compete in a series of competitions which include: relay races, a spelling bee, a trivia competition, tug of war in addition to many other fun events.
