Final comment deadline on newly proposed rules for Oregon's beaches
More people are visiting Oregon's beaches than ever before. Since the last time the rules and regulations governing what can take place on the coast's beaches and by how many, State Parks officials estimate that millions more are now visiting the 362-mile long beach line from Warrenton to Brookings. Hearings have been underway along the Coast aimed at receiving public opinion about newly proposed rules that are aimed at protecting the cultural, historical and natural resources along the state's shores. The last hearing was held at Cannon Beach on Tuesday, Jan. 31st. Final public comments; however, are being received until 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6. The State Parks and Recreation Commission is expected to review the proposed rules during its April meeting. Some of the proposed rules involve prohibiting feeding birds; prohibiting glass products at the beach; allow the removal of a small quantity of agates, driftwood and similar non-living items for souvenirs; prohibit the removal of no more than five gallons of sand per person, per day, or 20 gallons per person, per year.
