Coos County Sheriff Report

Suspicious vehicle
A report of a "suspicious vehicle" at Parkersburg/Prospect Junction near Bandon, Tuesday, May 15, resulted in an arrest.  According to an entry on the Coos Co. Sheriff's log for 8:43 p.m., 70-year old Calie Marie Dallas was charged with Criminal Trespass II, Criminal Mischief II and Theft I.  Transported to the county jail at Coquille.

Warrant
According to an entry on the Coos Co. Sheriff's log for Monday, May 14, 3:39 p.m., Hwy. 42, milepost 18, "result of casual contact," Justin Arriola arrested on felony warrant.  Transported to the county jail at Coquille.

DUII/DWS
An accident in Charleston Saturday, May 12, 6:30 p.m., led to a DUII arrest.  According to a news release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office, the "at fault" driver, 51-year old John Edward Walters, Coos Bay, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Driving While Suspended - Misdemeanor.  He was transported to the county jail at Coquille.

Assault IV
A report of an assault at a campsite in the Bastendorff Beach area west of Charleston Saturday, May 12, 6 p.m., led to the arrest of a 58-year old male suspect.  According to a news release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office, an investigation revealed that Danny Wayne Ferren, a transient of the Coos Bay area, had gotten into a verbal and physical altercation with a 54-year old female at their campsite.  The victim did sustain injuries, but did not require medical attention.  At 7:03 p.m., Ferren was located and arrested for Assault IV Domestic and transported to the county jail at Coquille.

DUII
According to an entry on the Coos Co. Sheriff’s log for Saturday, May 12, 6:03 p.m., Cape Arago Hwy., “two vehicle non-injury accident, possible intoxicated driver.”  Fifty-one year old John Edward Walters, charged with DUII (BAC .10%).  Transported to the county jail at Coquille.

Assault
According to an entry on the Coos Co. Sheriff’s log for Saturday, May 12, 7:08 p.m., Bastendorff Beach, “report of assault while out on traffic stop.”  Forty-eight year old Danny Ferren charged with Assault IV Domestic and transported to the county jail at Coquille.

ATV accident
A 47-year old Hauser male received numerous injuries after his Quad ATV flipped on a dune in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area north of North Bend Thursday, May 10 at 11:23 a.m.  According to a news release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office, DeeJay Johnston looked back to see if his friends were following him, but when he turned back, his Quad went over a razorback dune and crashed.  He was transported to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay. 

Unlawful Use of a Weapon
A report of neighbors fighting on Braley Road in Coos Bay Tuesday, May 8, led to the arrest of a 47-year old Coos Bay male.  According to a news release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office, a deputy and Tribal Police responded to the call about 5:32 p.m.  The investigation revealed that Nicholas Varady had been in a continuing argument with a 33-year old male over personal property.  However, the argument allegedly turned physical with Varady attempting to strike the victim with a metal bar.  He was charged with Harassment, Menacing and Attempted Unlawful Use of a Weapon.  Varady was transported to the county jail at Coquille.

Search & Rescue
Two Coos Bay males became disoriented after dark and got lost in the area of the South Slough Sanctuary, southwest of Charleston, Tuesday evening, May 8.  According to a news release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office, they were notified by 57-year old Curtis Patterson, about 8 p.m., that he and another hiking companion were lost.  Deputies assisted by the Oregon State Police, Coquille Tribal Police and a fried of the lost subjects, located Patterson and 52-year old Neil Strandquist about 10:45 p.m. and escorted them back to their vehicle.  

VRO
A complaint over loud noise on E. Howard Lane in Coos Bay Tuesday, May 8, led to an arrest.  According to a Coos Co. Sheriff's Office news release, 59-year old Rodney Nix, Coos Bay, was found to be in violation of a court issued Restraining Order by being at the address.  Coos Co. Community Corrections also placed a detainer on him for Alcohol Consumption.  He was transported to the county jail at Coquille.

Pursuit
A vehicle pursuit on Hwy. 101, north out of Bandon on May 4, ended when the suspect vehicle left the roadway near the Hwy. 42 junction at Davis Slough, and rolled.  According to a Coos Co. Sheriff's Office report, a Bandon police officer stopped the 1999 Chrysler four-door sedan for a traffic violation at 10:46 p.m.  However, as he approached the stopped vehicle, it sped away.  Speeds were in excess of 100 mph when the officer lost sight of the vehicle near Randolph Road.  A Sheriff's deputy positioned himself at Davis Slough and the suspect vehicle came by at 10:56 p.m.  As the deputy began to follow the vehicle, it left the highway and crashed, coming to rest on its top in the roadway after crossing a large grassy median.  The driver attempted to flee but was caught.  She was identified as 20-year old  Flor Demaria Moosetail-Sanchez of Seattle.  She was charged with Attempting to Elude, Reckless Endangering and Failure to Carry or Present Identification.  She was not injured, but transported to the Coos Co. Jail at Coquille.

Coos Co. Sheriff's Office Records Section
On Friday, 05-25-2012, due to the start of Memorial Day weekend, the Records Section at the main office of the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, at the Coos County Courthouse in Coquille will be closed.  Public services for fingerprinting, Concealed Handgun Licenses and other records requests will not be available.  The Records Section will be open the following Tuesday, 05-29-2012.

Assault
A report of an assault on Epping Lane, Coos Bay, Thursday, May 3, 5:37 p.m., led to the arrest of a 45-year old male.  According to a news release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office, David J. Epping-Fate, Coos Bay, allegedly assaulted his 15-year old stepson following a verbal argument.  Both subjects refused medical attention.  Epping-Fate was charged with Assault IV and transported to the county jail at Coquille.

Warrant
According to an entry on the Coos Co. Sheriff's log for Wednesday, May 2, 9:05 p.m., West Beaver Hill/Seven Devils, "traffic stop."  Twenty-year old Quinn M. Allen arrested on Douglas Co. warrant for Contempt of Court.  Transported to the county jail at Coquille.

Hit & Run
A pickup truck with a blue tarp that fled an accident scene on Hwy. 42, milepost 14, Wednesday night, May 2, 10 p.m., was stopped by a Coos Co. Sheriff's deputy between Myrtle Point and Coquille.  According to a news release from the Sheriff's Office, 26-year old Benjamin Strusz, Medford, was identified as the driver of the 1981 GMC.  " During the stop, while investigating the hit-and-run accident, drug paraphernalia was found inside the pickup along with forged instruments."  Strusz and his passenger, 25-year old Chet Evans, Ashland, were both charged with Possession of Forged Instruments.  Strusz was also charged with two-counts of Hit & Run, Unlawful Possession of Meth, and Criminal Mischief.  They were transported to the county jail at Coquille.

ATV accident
A 25-year old North Bend woman was injured when the ATV she was riding rolled down an embankment within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area Sunday morning, April 29.  According to an news release from the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office, deputies and Hauser Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the Boxcar Ridge area about 10:30 a.m. where they found Krystle Lynn Harris with a possible broken ankle.  She was transported off the dunes but not to any medical facility.  She "sought her own transportation."

Disorderly Conduct
A 35-year old male was arrested on a charge of Disorderly Conduct II after Coos County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of at least five male adults in a physical altercation early Wednesday morning, May 2, in the Bunker Hill area of Coos Bay.  According to a news release, by the time deputies responded, about 12:49 a.m., three of the subjects had already left.  Two others were contacted on Hill Road, off of Hwy. 101.  One, Robert Hembree, was visibly intoxicated and confrontational toward law enforcement.  He was taken into custody, transported to the county jail at Coquille, and later released on a Criminal Citation.  The other individual was released at the scene.

Warrant
According to an entry on the Coos Co. Sheriff's Office log for Monday, April 30, Troller Road, Coos Bay, "attempt warrant service."  Donald Vandre arrested on Contempt of Court charge and transported to the county jail at Coquille.
